CML has successfully provided Launch! entrepreneur training to youth, women and indigenous communities. The Launch! program provides participants
with the knowledge and skills required to successfully start a business. Program curriculum covers all major topics related to starting and running a small business. We generally include business coaching and mentorship in a Launch! program as it increases the chances of sucess for participants.
Since 2011 CML has run ten Launch programs, including programs for youth, women, immigrants and refugees and indigenous youth. The most recent programs have been a program at VIRCS for Syrian refugee men and women, and a program with the Metis Nation Greater Victoria for indigenous youth.
The feedback for these programs has been overwhelmingly positive with participants reporting they feel more empowered and have the skills and knwoeldge they need to take the first steps to become an entrepreneur. An external program evaluator reported "the program participants couldn't say enough about how much they appreciated the program and how much they learned, how supported they feel and that they are ready to move on".
We tailor our program content and schedule to the specific community we are delivering the program to. For example, a program for immigrant youth needs to incorporate culturally sinsitive facilition, understand different approaches to family structure and dynamicsm and accomodate ESL issues. We can also run short evening
individual sessions that cover one particular business topic, or a short introduction to a business plan or being an entrepreneur.
All these programs contribute to healthy community economic development through the support for diverse small businesses which are the backbone of our local economy.
